After defeating the skeletons on floor 1, return to the village (portal scrolls in this instance will be a good idea to use instead of running back and forth) and the smith will talk to you again requesting for you to defeat 3 Skeleton Shield on the second floor of the crypt.
Dialogue:
Hey _____! I see the necromancers have different stuff than we or dungeon mobs. We have to find out how does their gear work and learn from it.
Let's defeat some skeleton's with shields, maybe they will drop something more valuable?
