NPCs are any non-playable characters found throughout your adventures with the main focus of providing [Quests| quests] to the player, aiding in story progression. Engaging with these characters are dependent upon two factors - quest progression and proximity.

Quest progression, as simple as it sounds, is triggered after completing certain objectives in a chronological order. These objective can vary in difficulty but always require a previous task to be completed first.

Proximity is a bit of a different matter. Dialogue from NPCs may seem to trigger automatically, however, it can be a bit more technical than just that. Before they begin an interaction with the player, the player must first be within the NPCs natural location. This means that if a quest requires you to gather resources from the mine, you may be able to claim the quest reward, but in order to receive the next quest, you must go back to the area they reside.

Note: it is usually due to this misunderstanding that the goblin key quest gets somewhat overlooked.
